other forms of energy and to run many different
types of modern-day appliances and machines.
Electricity and its applications also play a
vital role in improving living conditions of
the people and powering many different industries.
Thus,
the graduates of electrical engineering are
considered to be crucial manpower for generation
and utilization of electricity. The job opportunities
for these graduates are also considerable in
both public as well as private sector organizations
and industries. The degree course of electrical
engineering has been designed and periodically
revised to enable the young engineers to work
in their respective fields/branches with confidence
and to pursue advanced studies and research
if they so wish. The courses are being taught
and adequately supplemented through practical
training in the laboratories and demonstrations
at the related sites and plants. The laboratory
facilities include; electrical measurement,
circuits, electrical machines, power electronics
and control, high voltage and computer systems.
In some cases the students are also sent to
the laboratories of other departments and to
the Mechanical Engineering Workshop for practical
training.
The
Department of Electrical Engineering also offers
postgraduate courses and research programs leading
to Post Graduate Diploma (P.G.D.), Master of
Engineering in Electrical Power (M.E.), Master
of Philosophy (M. Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D.). These programs are organized under
the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies.
