Engineering.
The Department of Electronic & Telecommunication
Engineering offers degrees at undergraduate
and post-graduate level equally. It offers Bachelor
of Engineering in Electronic Engineering and
a Bachelor of Telecommunication Engineering.
It will fulfill the more acute need of the development
of the country by producing qualified Engineers
at both levels. The program offered will also
provide technical man power for the development
and production of the Electronic & Telecommunication
fields in the country. Themes of few important
schemes/work to be undertaken, are recapitulated
as under:
i) To provide research expertise
to both public and private Sectors such as
PTCL, PTV, SUPRACO, Philips, Siemens, Alcatel,
CATI and other organizations.
ii) To provide qualified
engineers and technologists up to postgraduate
level and to develop indigenous capability
of planning, designing and executing various
development projects so as to decrease the
reliance on foreign expertise.
iii) To further improve academic
standard at the department by redesigning
of curriculum in consonance with needs and
requirements for future engineers of Electronic
and Telecommunication Engineering.
The field of Electronic Engineering
encompasses the knowledge of electronic components/devices
and circuits used in the appliances such as
radio, television, recorders/players, microwave
ovens, etc. The courses taught are regularly
updated to keep abreast of the new knowledge
and development. The students also undertake
a project during their final year, which helps
them to enhance their capabilities as young
design engineers. The theory classes are well
supported by laboratory work. We have seven
big Laboratories:
· Advance
Computer Lab.
· Digital
Electronics Lab.
· PC-based
Instrumentation Lab.
· Microprocessor
Application Lab.
· Control
and Automation Lab.
· Telecommunication
Lab.
· Data
Communication & Networking Lab.
· Optoelectronics
and Biomedical Lab.
· Telematics
and Advanced Telecommunication Lab.
· Interactive
Cyber Lab.
These laboratories are equipped
with latest equipment ranging from basic electronic
device simulators and trainers to more advanced
telecommunications trainers. Excellent course
work and due practical experience, provide ample
job opportunities to our graduates in both public
and private sector industries and organizations
such as PTCL.,PTV, PIA, SUPARCO, Philips, Siemens,
Alcatel , CATI, CAA and other multinational
companies.
The rapid advancement of Telecommunication has
shrunk the whole world into a village. Every
day, new improved and enhanced services are
being offered by telecommunication companies.
Telecommunication links and channels are depleting
fast due to ever increasing demand. A fiber
optic link has already been laid down through
out Pakistan on the right side of River Indus
to cater demand of telecommunication users.
Every day, a new telecommunication company comes
on the surface and the industry is expanding
very fast. Seeing this rapid advancement, the
department has started new programs both at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The bachelor’s
degree in Telecommunication Engineering will
provide qualified engineers to multinational
telecommunication companies like PTCL, Paktel,
Instaphone and Mobilink etc.
The enhanced facilities of telecommunication
laboratories of the department such as Fiber
Optic Trainers, Color TV trainers, Microwave
Trainers, Transmission Line Trainers, High Frequency
Spectrum Analyzers, Weather Satellite Receivers,
Logic Analyzers, and PLC Trainers, will help
in producing quality manpower for the economic
development of Telecommunication in the country.
The expansion and modernization of industry
demands need of qualified telecommunication
engineers who must be equipped with latest telecommunication
techniques. Ministry of science and technology
has also approved a project to strethening laboratories
and library of Electronics & Telecommunication
Engineering Department. An amount of Rs. 39.678
million was allocated for the project, which
is in completion stage. The project will enable
the faculty members to use sophisticated and
precision equipment for teaching & research
projects. It will help provide students access
to latest laboratory equipment, library books
and journals for course and research work. Under
the project Rs. 2.5 million have also been earmarked
for the development of faculty staff. .
Frequent visits to industries are also organized
for the department to acquaint students with
the field experiences and practical environment.
An internship program is launched in collaboration
with local industry during summer vacation for
third year and final year students, which has
given fruitful results. The students are also
encouraged to participate in Seminars and software
competitions, such as IEEEP student seminar.
A.Q. Khan software competition held on and around
campus at National level.
The department also rewards their good students
by giving them gold medals. It offers two medals
to the first position holders in the final year
and to the best graduate of the department.
A new air-conditioned seminar library was established
in the Department and has been named after the
late Professor M.D. Makhdoom.
