Directorate of Postgraduate Studies
This Directorate was first established in the
University in 1978, to design and organize postgraduate
studies in the University. At present, postgraduate
studies in Civil Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,
Electrical Powers Engineering, Telecommunication &
Control Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Material
Science & Technology are conducted by this directorate.
A separate prospectus is published for the postgraduate
studies and can be obtained from

Institute of Irrigation & Drainage
Engineering
Since irrigation plays a crucial role in the agriculture
sector through out Pakistan, and particularly in Sindh
province, the above named Institute was established
in 1987 to cater for specialized needs of the irrigation
and drainage systems. The Institute of Irrigation and
Drainage Engineering offers full-time (morning and evening)
programs for studies leading to the degrees of M.E.,
M.Phil. and Ph.D. as well as part-time programs for
M.Phil. and Ph.D. Further information in this regard
may be obtained from:

Institute of Environmental Engineering
and Management
The First Earth Summit was a major step towards
the recognition of the environmental pollution at a
global scale. It was realized by the governments that
the industrial activities and increasing population
have degraded the environment to a level, which requires
sustainable development.
Now, most of the countries have Environmental Protection
Agencies, which are made responsible for the protection
and prevention of the environmental pollution under
their respective boundaries. Though every country has
its own nature of environmental problems and priorities
but being the part of global village it is the responsibility
of individual country to abide the international laws
and guidelines.
Deteriorating water quality and no-availability of
fresh water, poor sewerage systems, inadequate management
of solid waste, air and noise pollution from traffic
congestion, commercial and industrial activities are
the major environmental issues of urban centers. Poor
water improper sanitation, agricultural pollution, water
logging and salinity, soil degradation, rangeland degradation
and deforestation are the major environmental problems
of rural areas and Pakistan is no exceptional case.
There is an urgent need of trained personnel to address
these issues in a scientific and technical manner. Keeping
this in view, an Environmental Studies Division was
set up within the Department of Chemical engineering
on December 5, 1989. This Division was converted into
Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management
(IEEM) in March, 1993. From 1995 to 2000 the institute
was offering both full time and part time M.E programs
in Environmental Engineering but from 2001 only full
time programs (morning and evening) are offered. M.E
program comprises of a prescribed course work of three
semesters each of 06 months and thesis (06 months).
At the end of course work, students who get 60% aggregate
qualify for M.E. thesis project and others get only
postgraduate diploma. Those who do not get 50% in each
course they are given postgraduate certificate in subject(s).

the Institute may be obtained from:
