Department of Electronic Engineering, MUET organized 0.5 CPD Webinar on Prospect Funding Opportunities for FYPs

The Department of Electronic Engineering organized a CPD Webinar on “Prospect Funding Opportunities for FYPs” on January 7th, 2021. The resource persons of this CPD Webinar were Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry, Professor Emeritus, (Distinguished National Professor) Focal Person MUET NGIRI Ignite and Dr. Attiya Baqai, Associate Professor, Department of Electronic Engineering, MUET, Convener FYP Committee. Coordinators of the Webinar were Dr. Abi Waqas, Assistant Professor Department of Telecommunication Engineering, MUET and Engr. Shoaib Hassan Khaskheli (CPD Coordinator, ES), Instrumentation Engineer Department of Electronic Engineering, MUET. The Webinar was conducted online via MS Teams. More than 150 participants attended the webinar, among them many attendees were from various organizations and universities such as MUET Jamshoro Campus, MUET SZAB Khairpur Campus, DUET Karachi, University of Karachi, QUEST Nawabshah QUEST Larkana, COMSATS University Islamabad, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, SECM, A.S Consultants and Razaque Steel Pvt LTD

Many students, researchers and faculty members from various departments such as Electronics, Telecommunication, Software, Computer System, Electrical, Bio-medical, Civil, Environment, Information Technology, Textile, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering attended the webinar.

The Webinar started with the name of Allah. Engr. Shoaib Hassan recited few verses from Holy Quran. Dr. Abi Waqas welcomed the participants while appreciating their efforts and regular participation in the webinar series arranged by Department of Electronic Engineering.  He acknowledged the resource persons and his organizing team members for their volunteer services and assistance for the webinar. He also thanked Prof. Dr. Arbab Nighat, Chairperson Department of Electronic Engineering for her support and facilitation. He then invited her for the welcome speech as guest of honor of the webinar.

The Chairperson, Department of Electronic Engineering Prof. Dr. Arbab Nighat appreciated the passion of the attendees for learning about the importance and benefits of funding opportunities for FYPs. She encouraged the students to continue participating in such type of events. She also appreciated the efforts of coordinators Dr. Abi Waqas, and Engr. Shoaib Hassan Khaskheli and thanked Prof. Dr. B.S. Chowdhry and Dr. Attiya Baqai for coming up with such a wonderful topic related to the funding opportunities for FYP and instilling awareness amongst participants for the latest funding opportunities and their applying procedures in practical scenarios.

Dr. Abi Waqas handed over the mic to resource persons (Prof. B.S and Dr. Attiya Baqai) of the webinar who then started with the introduction and research areas of Funding, why to get funded. They further discussed about different possible grants/funding opportunities such as National Grass Root ICT Research Initiative for FYPs, Student Startup Business Competition, SSGC, WASA and when to apply for funding. Different national as well as international opportunities were discussed thoroughly during session. Dr. Attiya also elaborated the process of applying for Ignite funding by explaining each step. She further demonstrated the concepts, key points and steps of writing a grant application/proposal and showed sample proposals to give a sound knowledge to the attendees. She also described and informed attendees for different rounds to take their project up to the next level.

At the end of the Webinar there was a question-and-answer session. An online feedback form about the Webinar was also asked to be filled by the attendees whose statistics demonstrate the success and effectiveness of the Webinar.

The webinar ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Nighat Arbab and Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry to all the participants.
