Dr. B.S. Chowdhry Appointed as member of the HEC by Prime Minister

HYDERABAD: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Dean faculty Prof Dr Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry who is the distinguished national and meritorious professor, was appointed as member of Higher Education Commission (HEC) for four years with nine other prominent professionals as members of the commission by the ministry of federal education and professional training approved by the Prime Minister.

Talking to Dawn, MUET dean faculty of electrical, electronics and computer engineering Dr B S Chowdhry said that this appointment puts added  responsibilities on his shoulder and I apply my  entire talent and experience  for the promotion of higher education in the country and Sindh, particularly its rural areas.

He was the first distinguished national professor in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the country. These 10 members who are not entitled to any salary or benefits for services will work voluntarily for betterment of higher education in the country. The incomplete quorum of the commission was complete after a lapse of two years as soon as they were appointed. The commission consists of people of international eminence.

The 10-member of HEC who are appointed consist of Dr Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry, Dr Sania Nishtar, Dr Shams Kassim Lakha, Lt Gen ( R) Muhammad Asghar, Dr Naveed A Malik, Lt Gen ( R) Asif Mumtaz Sukhera, Prof Dr Javaid Iqbal, Engineer Ahmed Farooq Bazai, Ms Shahnaz Wazir Ali  and Dr Faisal Bari.

 

PROFILE OF THE PROFESSOR:

Prof Dr BS Chowdhry has varied teaching and research experience of more than three decades in diversified fields such as electronics, telecommunication, microprocessor technology, internet of things, telemedicine, wireless sensor networks, information and communication technology etc.

He has remained PhD examiner and expert to evaluate promotion applications for several European and Pakistani universities. He supervised/ co-supervised 15 PhD’s and more than 50 MPhil/Master’s thesis in the area of ICT. National and international awards were conferred on him.

After completing his first degree in electronic engineering discipline in 1983 with first class first position, he joined MUET as a faculty member. He did PhD in the field of microprocessor based intelligent instrumentation from the school of electronics and computer science university of Southampton, UK in 1990.  He rejoined the MUET after his PhD in 1990 and he was the meritorious professor (BPS-22) for over seven years.
