8th meeting of Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) on 22nd August, 2022

Department of Electronic Engineering organized 8th meeting of Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) and an interactive session of final year students (18ES) with Industrial Experts and Alumni’s on 22nd August 2022. The interactive session was on “SWOT analysis of industrial requirements and challenges for fresh graduates. The session arranged in Audio Video Conference Room, IIT Building from 10:00 am to 01:00pm. This interactive session lead by panel of industrial experts along with Chairperson ES department and attended by faculty members, final years’ students of department. The panel of IAB included Engr. Asif Memon (GM), Engr. Ghula Qadir Ansari (National manger, Cybernet Karachi Pakistan), Engr. Jawad Memon (Manager, NTDC Hyderabad), Engr Aamir Shahzad Shah (Senior Engineer, OGDCL), and Kapil Dev (Deputy Manager, NTDC Jamshoro).  

IAB Interactive Session

The session started with recitation of holy Quran followed by the welcome speech by Dr. Arbab Nighat, chairperson of department of Electronic Engineering. Dr. Arbab Nighat advised students to enhance their skills to meet the current standards of Industries. She discussed the efforts taken by department of Electronic Engineering to fill the gap between industries and academia. This is achieved by arranging multiple field visits, organizing various seminars by inviting experts from various industries. Most significantly, revising the curriculum according to the industrial demands by taking recommendation from industrial experts.

The forum was open for question answer session in audience followed by welcome speech, where final year students participated enthusiastically, and Industrial advisory board members provided their expert advice on multiple topics. The interactive session included the queries ranging from internship opportunities, potential final year projects that can be carried out in collaboration with industries, training programs, recruitment process of fresh graduates and expectation of industries form fresh graduates.

The initial discussion was related with internship, how to avail internship opportunities and to effectively use the internship experience as an industrial experience. IAB talked about current training programs offered by various companies. The IAB member explained the recruitment process for the fresh graduates, expectations and shortcoming or issues faced by industries while recruiting.

Furthermore, they emphasis on having additional skill that can be acquired by multiple online forums. These additional skills put more weightage in CV and these additional skills are impactful in interview session if they are demonstrated with right confidence and attitude.  Overall, it was a candid discussion of the experts with students, who shared their diversified experience while answering to the students’ queries. The session was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Irfan Ahmed Halepoto, Convener of Departmental Industrial and Liaison Committee.
