Job Vacancies Under HEC Funded Project (COE-37)

Applications are invited for the following position in a research project titled “Conserving Indus river water quality through pollution source tracking, economical treatment systems, and water circular economy” which has been awarded by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad under the Center of Excellence (CoE) grants at US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), Mehran UET, Jamshoro.

Position

Requirement

1.      

Research Associate(S)

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering/ IWRM/ Water Resources Engineering (preferably Ph.D. from Overseas). Fresh Ph.D. holders will be given priority.

  • Having experience in managing and conducting donor-funded research projects in the above-said fields
  • Having expertise in modeling and simulation, GIS & Remote Sensing, and Statistical and other web-based software will be given priority

 

Terms of Reference (TORs)

Provide assistance to Director/P.I  in managing all project activities of the Center. The major job responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for providing technical support to Principle Investigator/Co-Principle Investigator in the project activities. This will include office management, interaction with concern activity leads, liaison with Research assistants(RAs), MS and Ph.D. students working on the project,
  • Review and analyze the data, develop reports, monitor activities, follow up on the activity plan, and submit the progress report
  • Recording of minutes, the of meeting, preparing a presentation, and preparation of relevant reports as required by the PI and Co-PI
  • Coordinate with all implementing agencies, departments, and other stakeholders
  • Prepare and consolidate expenditure framework and budget
  • Reports, Implementation Plans, and Procurement Plans as required
  • Write publications and book chapters
  • Organize the seminars, workshops, and conferences
  • Get the time-to-time instructions from PI & Co-PI and respond accordingly

 

2.      

Research Assistant(s)

The candidate should have a Master’s Degree in (Environmental Engineering/Environmental Science/ Biological Sciences/Agriculture/Natural Resource Management/ Analytical Chemistry/ Chemistry/Integrated Water Resources Management/ Chemical Engineering or any other relevant field).

 

Prefer will be given to the candidate who has the following set of skills:

  • ESRI ArcGIS products and map development.

OR

  • Lab management, coordination, and administration of a Biosafety (BSL) 2 laboratory including quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) tasks associated with lab maintenance and project work; equipment maintenance and troubleshooting; supply ordering; and training the new and existing student in safe laboratory practices.
  • Microbiology method development and drafting of standard operating procedures (SOPs) including updating existing laboratory protocols.
  • Optimization or development of PCR and qPCR assays targeting pathogen and antibiotic resistance genes; and adaptation of published cultivation and molecular microbiology protocols.
  • Molecular project work (PCR, qPCR, sequencing) including DNA and RNA extraction from environmental samples or culture growth; gene based assays identifying bacteria or viral species; gene-based assays targeting pathogen or antibiotic resistance genes; and prepping samples for molecular work.
  • Data interpretation (bioinformatics, statistics, report writing) including basic data entry, summary statistics, bioinformatics, and reporting writing.
  • Writing and reviewing manuscript drafts for publications.

OR

  • Research and lab expertise in chromatography and mass spectrometry, solid and liquid phase extraction, water quality monitoring and analyses of all physical and chemical parameters, health risk assessment.
  • Applications knowledge of GC-MS, HP-IC, LC-MS.
  • Additional preferred expertise in Origin and R-Studio, SimaPro, Auto-CAD, WAT-PRO, ASPEN PLUS & HYSYS software’s/tools.

OR

  • Familiar with life cycle assessment circular economy
  • Working knowledge or skills of environmental economics and urban socio-ecology
  • Able to study and model the urban wastewater related environmental issues and urban-rural linkages in association with wastewater generation and its impact on rural ecosystem
  • GPS-X and other wastewater treatment models and simulation techniques
  • Team management and field management skills
  • Research design
  • Be able to travel and collect primary data from different sources

At least one year of working commitment at USPCASW would be required.

3.      

PhD Student

The candidate must be enrolled in the Ph.D. degree program in any HEC-recognized University/Institute in (Environmental Engineering/Environmental Science/ Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management/ Analytical Chemistry/ Chemistry/Integrated Water Resources Management/ Chemical Engineering, or any other relevant degree).

4.      

MS Student

The candidate must be enrolled in the 2nd semester of ME/MS degree program in in any HEC recognized University/Institute in (Environmental Engineering/Environmental Science/ Biological Sciences, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management/ Analytical Chemistry/ Chemistry/Integrated Water Resources Management/ Chemical Engineering, or any other relevant degree).
