Mehran Electronic Students Project Exhibition & Competition 2012 - MESPEC'12

Keeping up with last year’s tradition, Electronics department, Mehran UET once again succeeded in showing its mettle by arranging MESPEC’12, a project exhibition and competition for electronic students. This provided students an opportunity to show their practical skills in the field of project making, a platform to expose their talents and an opportunity to explore the sense of competition among them.

The competition took place in the Advanced Telecommunication & Telematics Laboratory and the Digital Electronics and Microprocessors Laboratory in the department of Electronics, MUET on 19th April 2012. 

MESPEC’12 was basically about 3rd year students but keeping in view the enthusiasm of other batches, projects from final year and selected projects from 2nd year were also included. These students collectively put in an applaudable effort and via these projects not only did they present new and innovative ideas but also proposed and modeled different practical solutions to many untackled problems in this advanced era.

An extraordinary amalgamation of hardware/ software projects were displayed. Covering most sub-fields of electronic engineering including; control engineering, signal processing, communication, microcontrollers etc. The projects were evaluated in terms of ingenuity and creativity, complexity of design, participants technical knowledge of the design, user friendliness of the product and appearance / aesthetics of the project/ soldering / connectivity perception and applications by the evaluation team which comprised of Dr Wajiha Shah, Engr Farida Memon, Engr Kehkashan Asma and Engr Attiya Baqai all being faculty member at the department of Electronics Engineering MUET.

After accumulative compilation of the results the 2nd runner up project was “Electronic Voting Machine using 8051 Microcontroller” from 10ES, 1st runner up project was “Intelligent Domestic Electricity Theft Detection System” from 09ES and the winning project was “Face Tracking Robot” from 10ES.

The participants were enormously encouraged and appreciated by numerous guests and visitors from different institutes and walks of life. The Vice Chancellor Dr. A. Q. K. Rajput, Dean FEECE Dr. B. S. Chowdhry, Dr. Ahsan Ursani, Chairman Biomedical Department along with his faculty members, Madam Rozy Ilyas, Director English Language Development Center along with other ELDC faculty members and senior faculty members from MUET also visited the exhibition; they highly appreciated the students for their hardwork and thoughtfully guided them for future endeavors. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Engineering & Management Sciences Isra University, the chief guest for the event visited the exhibition and immensely applauded the efforts of the participants and organizing team.

The event was made possible by the enormous support and guidance of the Chief-cordinator Dr. B. S. Chowdhry Dean FEECE, MUET. The untiring efforts of the co-ordinators Engr Yasmeen Naz Panhwar, Engr. Saba Baloch and Engr Sanober Farheen Memon and the organizing team from Electronics Department comprising of Abdullah Khan, Adil Nizamani, Afshan Rind, Ahmad Salman, Awais Gul, Faisal Zahid, Israr Ahmed, Kiran Rajput, Moshin Shaikh, Maryam Shaikh, Mehran Khan, Nimra Rehman, Saddam Hussain, Sana Ahmad and Shuhabudin Khoso.

The closing ceremony was held in the video conferencing hall, which was hosted by Faraz Shaikh & Aliza Mir both from 10ES. The closing ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Abdul Samad from 10ES. The chief guest presented his keynote address on “How To Do Research”, which highly motivated the students and taught them the basic hows and knows of doing research. Dr. B. S Chowdhry presented the chief guest with a shield and a keynote speaker certificate. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi presented the chief co-ordinator and the co-ordinators with shields as a token of appreciation. The winners were awarded cash prizes, shields and certificates and the organizers were awarded with certificates of appreciation by the chief guest Dr Hameedullah Kazi and Dean FEECE Dr. B. S. Chowdhry. In his concluding remarks Dr. B. S Chowdhry tremendously applauded the efforts made by the participants and organizers, he also motivated the students and the organizing team to participate and organize such events in future.
