Biomedical Engineering

Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro-Sindh established the Department of Biomedical Engineering as a separate entity in June 2011. However, the Bachelor of Engineering degree program it offers in Biomedical Engineering was initiated back in 2003 and is the first ever among the public universities. Then, the program was offered by the Department of Electronic Engineering. Currently, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has its own building which was inaugurated in 2011. 
The Department of Biomedical Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology aims to provide the high quality of education in the multidisciplinary field of Biomedical Engineering in a thrilling and challenging ambience in with its students actively taking part in technical exhibitions, competitions, seminars, workshops and other co-curricular activities throughout Pakistan.
Keeping in view the demands of the biomedical industry and healthcare sector, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has established state of the art laboratories which provide students with the latest technological advancements and make them capable enough to meet the market requirements along with cutting edge research.

The basic motivation, behind the transformation of various Engineering Programs at MUET according to the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system, was the decision taken by the PEC to make Pakistan a member of the Washington Accord (WA). The work in this regard started in the mid of 2015. The Department of Biomedical Engineering at MUET also commenced its journey towards OBE from October 2017 (1st semester of 17BM, the 3rd semester of F16BM, 5th semester of 16BM and 7th semester of 15BM). 

 

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Five Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) were prepared by SAR committee 2014. The PEOs were prepared based on stakeholders needs and linked with twelve PLOs. The PEOs of B.E. Biomedical Engineering degree program are presented below.
To produce engineers with the capabilities of
1.   working as Prosthetic Product Designers
2.   working as Biomedical Equipment Designer
3.   working as Medical Diagnostic Equipment Procurement Experts / Sales Promotion Managers
4.   working as Telemedicine and E-health Experts 
5.   pursuing higher education/research careers in Biomedical and E-health Engineering related fields
