Centre of English Language & Linguistics

We appreciate your interest and welcome you to the Centre of English Language and Linguistics website at Mehran UET, Jamshoro. I am honoured to lead and serve CELL as the first woman director. CELL is my first home of professional grooming where I started my career, as a lecturer in 2007. Since then, I have been fortunate to continue working here in different capacities. In 2018, I became Associate Professor and in 2022 I assumed responsibility as a director.

At CELL, we deliver excellence, quality, and dedication in what we teach. We prepare our students for career opportunities in the ELT community and other related fields. Our graduates contribute to the national economy, to social growth and stability. In the last decade, we worked on transforming CELL from an English Language service provider to a Centre of Language and Linguistics that offers degree programs to achieve these goals. Indeed, we are proud to have grown the quantity and quality of our programs and our faculty is known as regional leaders in research.

CELL’s MS and BS in English programs are running successfully, and now we are moving forward to launch a PhD program in Applied Linguistics. In addition to this, to enhance the research culture, we offer continuous professional training opportunities to expert and novice ELT practitioners through conferences, seminars, and webinars. We have a research journal, Repertus, which publishes research articles by Pakistani and international researchers. We have an active Language Lab and self-access centre that offers CALL training.

We believe, the soul of any institution is the young learners. Therefore, we have developed CELL as a student-centric learning place. To enhance the personalities of students in diverse ways, CELL operates an active multidimensional self-development plan under the umbrella of ‘Creative Learning Space-CLS’. CLS provides continuous training sessions on career opportunities, and professional development and helps students create meaningful connections with industry and our alumni. CELL also runs a vibrant ‘Mehran Language and Linguistics society of English-MLLSE’ which is solely run by students to nurture creative literary sensibilities and awareness about linguistic issues. The student council of MLLSE produces a literary magazine and runs student experience sessions and buddy support groups.

We are working with integrity to develop a comprehensive and sustainable research-led Centre of English. My team and I are in constant pursuit of excellence in academic innovation. I welcome you once again to the family of CELL. Together, we will create a culture of education, research, collaboration and partnership.
